Wednesday

Gretchen took the night sleep and since there is only one guest room and the couch is the infirmary I got the night off! Woo!

Mom slept in a little (til 7am). And realized that I was right about easing into foods. Food Monday night and Tuesday (note: I was not there) upset her tummy, digestive track a little. So... apple sauce it is!
Gloria will be bringing by her chicken mini orzo pasta soup (it has an Italian name, but I don't know it) later tonight.

We have a doctors appointment at 4:40pm with Dr. Rajgopal! We started a list of questions to ask so that we don't forget anything:
*when can mom go up down, up down the stairs? (she can only go down in the morning and up at night)
*Is Physical therapy needed and who refers us?
*Can we get a handicap placard?

Tuesday

Well, I got the night off! Yippee! I went home and cleaned my house. Yahoo!

Aunt Wendy came over yesterday at around 10am and took over for me. She is a GREAT nurse! The nurse, Karen came and took off moms bandages at about 4pm. A little painful, but neccesasy. It will be good to get a little air around the stitches. :).

Wendy made Wendy (ha ha that always sounds funny!) some chicken for the first time! Yeah (inside I am really thinking eewww as I am a vegetarian). It was like baby food cut up very tiny with a small side of mashed potatoes and tiny tiny very soft carrots. Mom is eating small meals so this meal was mini. Her tummy is trying to catch up.

Auntie Gretchen will be down at 11ish today and will be staying over. I will join the ladies for a lunch and check up with mom and give Lucy a little loving. Lucy can tell some thing thing is different because mom won't move from "her" area on the couch. She has been very careful around mom too. When we went down the stairs she walked step by step with us until I scooted her along.

Monday Monday

5:30am wake up! (I can't wait to sleep in). We made our way down stairs with Lucy dog following each step down the stairs. We got comfy on the couch and she took a nap while I got ready to go to work. As soon as I got out of the shower I hear "Oh no, that's not good, oh no". Well mom couldn't still, and bent over when she shouldn't have. She filled up Lucy's water bowl when it was already full. I made her go ly down. After blow-drying my hair I hear the garage door...sure enough she put something out there.
This is going to be a long week!
Her nurse, Karen, will be visiting today for a little check up and shower (she can't wait to do her hair).
Auntie Wendy will be driving down from Laguna Niguel to hang out and spend the night.

We need to find a hobby! Lucy is good company for now :)!

Sunday FUNday

Well she slept all through the night (9pm-5:00am)! I even got to go out and see some friends last night when she sent to sleep (with the phone next to her of course).

Waking up today...all she wanted was eggs (egg beaters)! She told me that she thought about them for hours... Her appetite is coming back, which is good.
Joni came to visit. She brought Starbucks for mom (yummy iced tea), now that is a Friend! You would think that she hadn't had an iced tea in years. About 11am I ditched them and went to my house to pick up Luke (my boyfriend) and we were off to a movie. Quiznoes sandwiches, bottled waters, at The Expendables at 12:45pm! Fifteen minutes into the movie it shut off and broke. The theatre was unable to fix it...typical. Mom wanted cream of wheat, so I went to the store. I stopped at home and crashed. 6pm I had dinner and it was back to La Costa, I went. Nice, nice Joni stayed ALL DAY! Lucy came back home from her "Vacation" at Mark's. It was nice to have her back.

First Day @ HOME

5:30am early riser! It was a good but long night at home. The couch was much more comfortable than the hospital bed.

Breakfast: Soft food diet in baby steps: Chicken broth and Jell-o.

An at home nurse stopped by at 11am and checked her out. Mom got in trouble for not JUST resting. She even tried to walk the nurse out and Karen (nurse) said to just lie down.

I hear her washing dishes right now, but I want to finish this before going down stairs. I know she has a hard time just relaxing. She is a go-getter.

After the nurse let I took my notes from the dietitian, that I met with at the hospital, and went to Target(the one off Palomar Airport is always dead and has a FULL grocery section) to stock up on her next weeks food: Chicken, Veggie, or Beef broth, carrots, etc. (any non fiberish veggies cooked real soft), no fiber or rufage, apple sauce, cream of wheat, white rice and white bread (prob. only time someone tells you to eat instead of wheat) soy milk (no dairy), and on and on. I had a special request from mom for some Popsicles. It has been hot!

Our neighbors Kay and Frank were nice enough to hear and see if she needed anything when I was gone.

Up the stairs tonight to the NICE SOFT BED. Yeah!

Hospital Day 2

So she started texting at 6:20 am! Talk about a burst of energy! Still no food, ice or liquids.

About 9am she was determined to sit up in a chair (I think hours in bed drove her crazy!) We talked and watched a little of The View. After getting to bed at 11pm it was time for some quiet. I went to work for a couple of hours. I got a call from her that she just finished her first walk. I was a little disappointed feeling like I was a parent missing a child's first steps, silly! Well I made my way back at 3:00pm.

Visitors:
8:00-11:00am & 3:00pm-9:45 pm Allyson (me)
afternoon Kay M. (Neighbor)
3:00pm Carol S.
3:00pm Mona M.

The NG Tube is removed (in the nose to the stomache)! Yippee! When things calmed down a bit a nap was needed. At 5:00pm we walked down the halls and back again!
